Road access to the Edinburgh International Airport is easy from the two-level junction on the A8 midway between the Gogar and Newbridge roundabouts. RAF base Turnhouse was demilitarised in 1947 and was given to the Ministry of Aviation to use as an airport as British European Airways launched the first Edinburgh–London shuttle service.
